New system for clinical trial management

NSW Health is introducing new software to support the delivery of clinical trials and research in public hospitals, and Northern Sydney Local Health District is a pilot site for this software. The Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS) maintains and manages planning, performing and reporting functions, along with participant contact information, and tracks deadlines and milestones.

The CTMS, when implemented, will reduce administrative burden, increase visibility of clinical trial activity, and improve financial management of our trials, leading to:

  • Reduced administration tasks required to manage clinical trial reporting
  • Increased collaboration through identification of duplication of research initiatives
  • Improved clinical outcomes data
  • Consistency in research practice
  • Improved visibility of research successes
  • Improved financial reporting

New clinical trials will be required to be entered into CTMS within 12 months of the system go “live” at NSLHD. This applies to all clinical trials, including investigator initiated, collaborative group trials, and commercially sponsored trials.
The software is online and accessed via a website via Stafflink login. Site authorisation at an NSLHD service or facility will be dependent on knowledge and use of the CTMS. To support this implementation, we need to ensure our trials staff are aware of this program and available for training.

NSLHD staff will receive face to face training (where possible), have access to online resources, and a dedicated local change manager, commencing in July 2022. Face to face training will commence from July for superusers and trial unit managers, with subsequent sessions for other trial roles including investigators.
