Brindle and Gawande (1) provide recommendations as to how we should meet the unique challenges that the current pandemic will place on the provision of surgical services in major teaching hospitals. Specific recommendations include postponing elective operations immediately, putting in place a clear plan to allow the provision of essential operations during the pandemic, providing a dedicated COVID-19 operating space and repurposing operating theatres too allow for the treatment of critically ill patients.
