Welcome to the Surgical Education Research and Training (SERT) Institute
Royal North Shore Hospital
The SERT Institute at Royal North Shore Hospital was established in 2017. The SERT Institute promotes, assists and encourages the engagement of surgeons in academic and surgical quality improvement activities that will result in improvement in patient outcomes and clinical care.
The SERT Institute is a clinician initiative to overcome barriers developed in recent years that
impact on the capacity of surgeons to be involved in academic research, clinical auditing, clinical leadership,
teaching, mentoring, clinical governance roles and processes within the hospital.

Surgery
Royal North Shore Hospital has 15 surgical departments including Trauma and over 110 consultants.
Education
SERT facilitates surgeon leadership workshops and the Masters of Surgery Program at the University of Sydney.
Research
Our surgical departments produce over 200 research publications per year.
Training
Surgical training sessions are held by each department throughout the year.
