PPE Training for Surgical Staff @RNSH

All surgical staff should be familiar with the RNSH COVID-19 Precautions for Surgery document. The most recent version of which is available on the hospital Intranet. The most recent information from NSW Health is available on their website (1)

  • PPE training for PGY1/PGY2 staff is co-ordinated through the Junior Medical Staff Unit (JMSU) (Dr John Vassiliadis).
  • PPE training for PGY3 and above is co-ordinated by Claire Kennedy in the JMSU. Dr Deepali Kamalapurkar Poels, the Acute Surgical Unit Fellow, is also available for advice. Junior medical staff who are attending theatre will need to complete the wards based and theatre-based training. The theatre-based training is the same as described for senior surgical staff.
  • PPE training for senior surgical staff is co-ordinated through theatres. This will be organised by Dr Catherine Traill (anaesthetic VMO). This is a very active program with four training sessions run each day during the week. A sign-up sheet at the front desk of theatres to allow all theatre staff to assign themselves to the most convenient session.

Please feel free to contact John, Claire, Deepali or Catherine for advice.
