Professor Stan Sidhu

After obtaining his medical degree with Honours at Sydney University, Professor Sidhu completed his General Surgery Fellowship in Sydney and then undertook his International Endocrine Surgery Fellowship in Belfast, Northern Ireland. On return to Sydney, he completed a doctoral thesis examining the molecular genetics of Adrenocortical Tumours. His extensive research and practice has made him a world recognised Academic Endocrine Surgeon (thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal specialist). Following the completion of his PhD, he was appointed to Royal North Shore and Hornsby Hospitals.

As an eminent thyroid specialist, Professor Sidhu trains and educates medical students and residents and has also mentored over 40 surgeons as Fellows in Endocrine Surgery, as surgeons obtaining their General Surgery Fellowship and as surgeons undertaking a doctoral thesis in Thyroid and Adrenal molecular biology research.

Professor Stan Sidhu is a Senior researcher within the Thyroid and Adrenal research group, Cancer Genetics within the Kolling Institute of Medical Research. He is a former holder of an NSW Cancer Institute Clinical Research Fellowship and current holder of a Sydney Medical School Foundation Fellowship. He and his post-doctoral scientists and doctoral students have been successful at obtaining National Health and Medical Research Council, NSW Cancer Institute,  Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Endeavour Foundation and University of Sydney scholarships and grants.

He has senior or co-authored over 170 original peer-reviewed publications in clinical and scientific journals and invited book chapters. He and his trainees have given more than 200 presentations at state, national and international meetings focusing on surgical education, clinical outcomes research and the molecular biology of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal cancer.

Academic Endocrine Surgeon Professor Stanley Sidhu earlier this year became the first Australasian surgeon to deliver one of the most prestigious annual surgical lectures in America. He accepted a Visiting Professorship which allowed him to deliver the 53rd Leon E. Sample Memorial Lecture, presented by the Yale University School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery Read article.

Professor Stan Sidhu is married with 4 children. Stan is not just a thyroid specialist, he is also a cricket enthusiast. He is heavily involved with cricket at the Lane Cove Cricket Club and the North Shore Representative Association.  He is a Cricket Australia Level 2 coach and is immensely proud of his three sons who have represented NSW at primary school level cricket and continued into the NSW Cricket academy system.
