My education, training and interests have been focused on medical science and public health. Specifically, I hold a Bachelors Degree in Medicine (Xinjiang Medical University, China), a Masters in Medicine and Women’s Health (Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China) and a PhD in public health from Curtin University of Technology, WA.
Currently, I am a Data Manager focusing on data analysis in DASO (Data Analysis and Surgical Outcomes) Unit of Royal North Shore Hospital. Before that, I worked for many years as a research fellow and data manager in the UNSW Faculty of Medicine of (2007-2015 and 2018-2019) as well as a post-doctoral Research Fellow in the University of Technology Sydney Faculty of Health (2015-2018).
What does your role involve?
I provide data management and data analysis support and consultations to medical staff, researchers and students. These data analyses mainly involve descriptive statistics calculations as well as hypothesis testing employing t-tests, ANOVA, chi-square tests, correlation, linear regression, logistic regression, Survival analysis (Kaplan Meier, Cox regression), General linear modelling (GLM) and generalized estimating equations (GEE). The software I use for data analysis is mainly SPSS and R.
My data management work mainly involves data cleaning, validating and linking. I have used health service datasets from the sources below for research and reporting.

Research interests
My research interests are in the areas of biostatistics, cancer and nutrition, emergency medicine, mental health and in issues relating to breastfeeding. I have published 34 papers in peer-reviewed journals on mothers’ and children’s health (14 papers), mental health (8), cancer (6), emergency medicine (3) and methodology of linked data analysis (3).
I have been involved in eight research projects, listed below. Of these, six were based on linked health service data from NSW and WA, one based on the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health (ALSWH). My main role for those projects was data analyses.
